Carl Hansen & Søn in New York

In 2011 The Danish furniture manufacturer Carl Hansen & Søn opened their first American showroom in SoHo, NY. Sales have since increased, and to follow up the success the company has now moved to a new place in the Flatiron district, the city´s up and coming design area. Carl Hansen & Søn manufacturer some of the most famous furniture of Danish design history, and offers the ultimate classical furniture crafts from Hans J. Wegner, Ole Wanscher, Frits Henningsen, Kaare Klint, Poul Kjærholm plus collaborations with contemporary designers as the Japanese architect Tadao Ando and the Austrian design trio Eoos. The new address is 251 Park Avenue South, located in a historic pre-war building. The 700 square meter space is designed as an open apartment rather than a traditional showroom. The venue consists of several separate rooms, each with its own theme and color scheme, screened with glass and inspired by the special floor décor typical of New York. Director and owner Knud Erik Hansen, who is the third generation of the Hansen family, says: – After several years of success and strong growth in the US market it is time to strengthen our presence in New York with a new and larger showroom. New York is a center for furniture design and a place for some of the world’s best architects and interior designers. Meanwhile the interest in sublime craftsmanship of high quality is rising in the USA. Photo: Carl Hansen & Søn.
